Summer Days

This week I have been making good use of the fine spell of weather that has finally arrived. More than anything I love sitting in the garden with a glass of wine until the sun goes down, it is perfect.

After a round of Sex on the Beach we headed out to Roundabout, not the best pub in the world but it has character!

I hope you are all having fun in the sun too!

Music of the Night 2012: A Twenty Year Spectacle

I was settling down for a quiet night in last night with my friends wine, chocolate and Miss Bridget Jones when I received a phone call. It was my dad offering me a ticket to the show Music of the Night held in the Royal Citadel, Plymouth that night. Now, I am not one to pass up an opportunity to dress up or to watch a variety of musicals all in one night so I obviously said yes! After a super quick change into a little dress and my favourite nude heels I ran out the door and arrived just on time to be able to take in the splendour before the show began.

The Royal Artillery Band and the choir on stage against the backdrop of the barracks. (Sorry for the photo quality I only had my Blackberry with me!)

The ceremonies began with the national anthem and was followed by a rendition of 'Sing' by the Military Wives, school children, the choir and the band. The show took the audience on a journey through history using musicals which included: Oliver, Me and My Girl, Miss Saigon, Les Miserables and some World War Two sketches and songs. The show was a constant hive of activity with each show piece containing twenty or more company members, pieces of scenery and even cars from the particular era!

The band carried the performance on long after the sun had set with extracts from James Bond and Aida, as well as accompanying The Soldiers and  The Military Wives in their performances.

Finally, as the show drew to a close the drummers and pipers marched out to play as the guns were fired and the fireworks were set off from the battlements. The finale truly was excellent and made me feel proud to be British once again this year! Unfortunately this was the very last show of Music of the Night, which has been running for twenty years, so I am glad to say that I went instead of sitting at home with Bridget!
